I did a blog like this a little while back when I first started doing online school. But, now that I am pretty much all online for a second semester, I have picked up a lot more tricks on how to make online school a smooth experience.
I will be the first to admit that I STRUGGLE with online learning. I have a very hard time keeping track of things and I feel like I fall behind pretty easily. I know it’s early in the semester, but I already feel like I am doing so much better keeping track of things and staying organized.
Here some tricks that will get you one step closer to that 4.0.
Tip #1
Take control of your schedule
Every school is doing things a bit differently. For that matter, every class is doing things differently. For example, one of my classes meets in person, some meet online at a scheduled time, and some are move at your own pace. Because all of these classes are doing all different things, and we don’t have set schedules like most years, it is so important to plan out your own schedule every week. At the beginning of each week, I pull up the syllabus for all of my classes and figure out what I am going to be working on each day. This helps me so that I don’t fall behind in any of my classes.
Tip #2
Ditch the planner
Okay, okay don’t freak out! Hear me out here. Planners work for some people and if it works for you, that is great, just skip right over this tip. If you are like me, a planner doesn’t really work. In past blogs, I have talked about how planners are a great way to stay organized, and if you use them daily, they absolutely are. I find that every year, I purchase a planner and then I only use it for a couple days and it sits in my bag all year. I have been trying to find a way to keep track of assignments for YEARS and I think that this year, I finally found out what works. I always buy a notebook for each of my classes. This year, I started writing the assignments I have coming up for each class in the journal itself. I find that this works really well for me because I use the journals every day to take notes, and when I open it up, I see the latest assignments that are coming up.
Tip #3
Take Notes on Paper
When classes were in person, I found myself taking most of my notes on my computer, because it is a lot easier to type than write. But, with virtual classes, you are already looking at the computer for so long each day. So, when it comes to note taking, try to write your notes down in a notebook so when you are studying, you don’t have to look at a screen for even longer, you can just look at your handwritten notes.
Tip #4
Get yourself some cute notebooks and colorful pens
Okay, again, hear me out. When you have some good quality, cute notebooks, you’re going to be more motivated to use them. I got bullet journals this year to take notes in and I usually color code my notes. This makes them more organized and easier to study.
Tip #5
Try to get work done in different places
I have talked about this a little bit before, but try to get work done in different places rather than just sitting in your room. If I do my homework in my room for too long, it gets really hard to focus. Sometimes a simple change in scenery makes it easier to concentrate and get work done.
These are my biggest tips to navigating online school. Hopefully, we can all get back in person very soon because as we all have learned, online school can come with many challenges! But, use these tips to help you ace your classes and make online school a little bit easier.

Ashlyn
