My Favorite Dairy Free Products

My Favorite Dairy Free Products

Whether you are lactose intolerant, allergic to dairy or simply want to cut it out of your diet, it can be a hard food group to cut out. For me, the hardest part about not eating dairy is not eating cheese and ice cream. (I absolutely love ice cream.) I stopped eating dairy a couple of years ago and overtime, I have tried A LOT of dairy free products. Some have been not very good at all, but others have been really good. I want to share some of my favorite dairy free products with you today.

1. Lactaid Milk and Chobani Oat Milk

Obviously, milk is something you may use a lot of. Lactaid milk tastes exactly like regular milk. I can’t tell a difference. My family also uses it sometimes and they like it too. I usually get a half gallon which is right around $4, but you can get it in a gallon size too. You can buy this at your local grocery store.

I also really like Chobani Oat Milk which I just recently started drinking. I prefer the vanilla flavor but they also have regular and chocolate. The vanilla oat milk is pretty sweet and I really like to use it for smoothies and protein shakes, but you can also drink it plain if you want. The oat milk is right around the same price as the Lactaid milk.

2. Lactaid Ice Cream

I have tried a lot of dairy free ice cream in the past and a lot of them taste dairy free, if that makes sense. For example, in a lot of the dairy free ice cream that I have tried, the consistency is a lot different than regular ice cream which I don’t really like. Lactaid ice cream tastes exactly like regular ice cream. They have flavors including cookie dough, mocha almond chip, peanut butter pie, vanilla, chocolate, salted caramel, cookies and cream and mint chocolate chip. I have tried pretty much all of them (I told ya, I love ice cream,) and I haven’t found one that I don’t like. You also get more for your buck with Lactaid as oppose to other ice cream brands. Most dairy free ice creams come in a pint size for around $5. Lactaid ice cream is around $5 but you get a quart rather than the pint. To be completely honest, if you gave me a scoop of regular ice cream and one scoop of Lactaid, I would not be able to tell the difference.

3. Daiya Cheese

This is another product that I just recently found and I am so glad that I did. I have tried a lot of dairy free cheese and either they don’t taste like cheese at all or it doesn’t melt. I love grilled cheese, tuna melts, pizza, etc so you can probably understand why I was on the search for a dairy free cheese that melts. The brand Daiya has so many different kinds. They have shredded cheese which includes cheddar, mozzarella and pepper jack. They also have cheese slices including american, mozzarella, cheddar, swiss and provolone. They also have plain, strawberry, chive and onion and garden vegetable cream cheese which I have not tried yet. So far, I have tried the shredded mozzarella and the cheddar slices. To be honest, it doesn’t taste exactly like regular cheese, but that is not a bad thing. It melts which is awesome for grilled cheese, melts, pizza and omelets. This will definitely be a product that I keep buying in the future and I think it is the perfect dairy free alternative. I buy these at Target. Both the shredded cheese and the cheese slices are around $5.

4. Daiya Mac and Cheese

I am a big Mac and Cheese fan, so when I found out about this product, I knew I needed to try it out. I tried the Deluxe Alfredo style and I thought it was really good. Just like the cheese, it does taste a little bit different than regular Alfredo, but it is a super great non dairy alternative. The brand Daiya also has a lot of products I have not tried yet like desserts and even pizza! Target is a good place to find the Mac and Cheese as well. The Mac and Cheese is $5 too!

5. Silk Dairy Free Yogurt

I really love to have yogurt with granola with my breakfast and I also like to use yogurt in my smoothies. Silk Dairy free yogurt is so yummy plus they have so many flavors. They have vanilla, peach mango, strawberry, tropical pineapple, blueberry and so many more. I have tried a lot of their flavors and I like them all. This yogurt is $1.25 per container and you can find it at most grocery stores.

6. Lactaid Pills

This isn’t really a “dairy free” product, but it is basically a pill that you take if you want to eat dairy if you are lactose intolerant so that the dairy doesn’t upset your stomach. The problem with these is if you take them too much, they could start not to work. I only take these on special occasions or if there is something that I really want with dairy in it. They are good to carry with you just in case you find yourself in a situation where you really want that slice of pizza.

Overall, my favorite 2 dairy free brands are Daiya and Lactaid. I like these brands because they have so many different products and they taste so close to regular products. These products are going to run a little more expensive than regular dairy products, but they are totally worth it if you can’t eat dairy. I usually don’t use these products daily, and think of them more as a treat so they last a little bit longer.
