Hello hello everyone! We got a hot topic today, buckle up. Today we are talking about the real truth around what it’s like to travel during COVID. Are airlines being safe? Was the airport a mess? Was no one wearing a mask? I have all the answers for you plus more. If you didn’t know, I recently went to Disney with my sister, so in the next few blog posts, I am going to share what it was like going to Disney during COVID, along with sharing some Disney tips with you. But for now, let’s start it off by talking about what it was like getting there, since that’s half the battle!
So, first of all we flew on a different airlines getting there and coming back. We took Delta there and United back home. Before this trip, I had never been on either of those airlines. I was actually really impressed with how safe the planes were. They really took every measure possible to make sure that flying was a safe environment for everyone. On the plane, there were only two people in each row of three, so that there was a seat in the middle of everyone. I really appreciated that and thought that was a really smart thing to do. When we got onto the plane, they handed out a sanitizing wipe to each person. Everyone had to keep their masks on the entire flight unless they needed to take a drink or have a snack, and everyone followed this rule which made me feel very safe on the plane.
When we got to our hotel on the first day, we didn’t really have many plans. We just wanted to hang out, sit by the pool and go to Disney Springs later on. We stayed at the Pop Century Resort which I really loved. It was considered one of Disney’s “value” resorts, but I was so impressed with how nice it was. If you are on a budget, I highly recommend staying here! The rooms were so cute, it had two pools, a food court/gift shop and a couple different transportation options to the park. There is actually a skyliner at this hotel that takes you to Hollywood Studios and Epcot which is super fun and I will talk about it more in the next blog. But I really enjoyed my stay there. I love staying in the park, because it is a huge perk, but it can get really pricey. So, if you are in the same boat as me, look up this hotel! I’ll drop some pictures of the resort and our room below!
At the resort, they had a contactless check in so you could just check in on your phone which was super nice and very easy. Our room was ready right away. There was a note in the room that talked about all the advanced cleaning measures they had in place. The room was the perfect size for my sister and I and it was Disney themed but not over the top. Any time that you left your room, you had to wear a mask.
After checking in, it was pool time! At the pool, you could take off your mask when you were swimming and when you got to your chairs, but if you were walking around, you had to put it back on. Also, when you left the pool, they asked that you folded the chairs down so that the employees could come clean them before anyone else used them. They also had a lot of fun games at the pool for guests to play like guessing the song that was playing (which Paige really liked!)
You may be wondering what the Disney Transportation Shuttles looked like during COVID because typically, they pack the busses with people! They absolutely did not do this now. They had screens on the bus separating parties, and they assigned people seats so that they were separated enough. Disney resorts really went above and beyond to make sure that everyone felt safe.
Disney Springs had the same rules as the resort. You had to wear a mask at all times and everyone did their best to keep their distance from one another. We weren’t at Disney Springs for too long, but we did go to the World of Disney store and ate at Planet Hollywood for dinner. At the store, I got a super cute Walt Disney World yellow sweatshirt. Planet Hollywood was also super cool. Our table was right next to the big screen that played music videos and everyone who was there had a great time. This dinner was a bit pricey, but it was absolutely worth it!
The first day in Florida was so much fun and I am so happy everything went according to plan. This was my first time planning a trip on my own, so I was so nervous that I was going to forget something! Thank you so much for reading, and make sure to follow my Instagram and YouTube! I have been posting a lot more on all of those platforms!
