Want to Live on The Edge?

Have you ever wanted to be daring and live on the edge? If this sounds like you, you should definitely check out The Edge. The Edge is the perfect place to hang out with friends, see all of NYC from a new perspective and get some mind blowing pictures along the way. But, let me tell you exactly what to expect if you are planning on visiting, because there were a lot of things I was not expecting when I went.

If you don’t know what The Edge is, it is an outdoor sky deck located on top of a mall in Hudson Yards. When you get up to the 101st floor, you get a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Get your cameras ready for this one, because you’re going to want a whole lot of pictures.

So here’s the deal. You can buy tickets online for a certain day. What I didn’t know was that you could arrive any time within the time block your ticket is for and then stay up there pretty much as long as you want. I would plan on being up there for 45 minutes to an hour. My tip for you is to plan on getting there at the start of your ticket time. Here’s why.

When you get there, you have to wait in line to get up to the deck. The line moves really slow because only a few people can go up at a time. So to put that into perspective a bit for you, we got there right when our time started and we didn’t get up to the deck for a full hour after getting in line. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s totally worth it to wait in line, but for planning purposes, make sure you account for the time you are going to be standing in line.

If you have ever seen pictures online or on social media of people at The Edge, you have probably seen pictures of them standing in two pretty iconic spots. One of those spots is where the floor is clear, so you can see the city below you. The other is a popular lookout point where you can stand in a corner. Both of these spots have lines you have to wait in and workers helping to move the line along. So you can’t just walk up and take a picture in these spots. When I went, we waited in line for the spot where it was clear below, but we didn’t wait for the spot where you could stand at the corner. The lines do move pretty fast though, we were just getting cold so we didn’t wait.

Another thing to keep in mind is that pretty much anywhere you go on the deck, you are going to be able to get a good picture because it is all so pretty. We got really great pictures standing in a random spot.

Lastly, let’s talk about price. It’s $36 for tickets which I first thought were pretty expensive, but it is in NYC after all, so everything is going to be a bit pricey. I am really glad that we went though because it was a really cool experience and we got to see a view of the city that we had never seen before.

If you are into photography, or just want to see a really spectacular view of the city, I would highly recommend checking out The Edge. There’s really nowhere else in NYC quite like it.
